Intraclubs
The Power Boat Squadron is an intraclub of the Hervey Bay Boat Club for all boat owners and those people interested in on-water activities and water safety.
During the year the club organises different on and off water events for those persons interested in these types of activities to give them the opportunity to learn the right procedures and protocol for the safe handling of boats and consideration to other water users. We conduct various cruises on the waters of Hervey Bay to acquaint members of the different areas of the Bat that they can use their boats for recreational purposes.
Membership of the club enables you to participate in all our activities, attend all general meetings with full voting rights and all this costs is $5.00 per annum. Our general meetings are held bi-monthly from November on the third Tuesday in the Board Room commencing at 7:30 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Events
The activities we conduct during the year include:
- An on-the-beach day where we carry out water safety procedures for various types of water craft. This is a family day where we hire power boats, catamarans, canoes and kayaks. Those people interested are shown the correct methods to control these vessels and the safety gear and procedures needed to have an enjoyable and safe passage on the water.
- Conduct a meet the new committees cruise which is held late October/early November for all Boat Club members whereby they can see the committees of boat the Boat Club and the intra clubs and get to find out what each club entails.
- We hold an annual fishing competition with the Fishing Club in honour of Jack Cain who was a loyal and ahrd working member of boat clubs. The clubs hire a charter vessel to even things up and compete for the “Jack Cain Memorial” trophy.
- The club conducts a charity cruise in conjunction with the Yacht Squadron. This cruise is set down February and the vessel follows the yachts as they race to Moon Point.
- In April we run a familiarisation cruise which is open to all members of the Boat Club where we show them the areas of Hervey Bay andgive out GPS markings as well as giving instructions on the correct way to use a GPS and how to operate marine radios.
- The club participates in various charity events with the Boat Club and other intra clubs such as the “Terry Fox Appeal” and the charity cruise.
